| The
Pedifix Gel Tailor’s Bunion pad is one of the only gel products
available that is specifically designed to address the pain and swelling
of a bunion on the fifth metatarsal bone at the joint of the pinky
toe called a Tailor’s bunion. The Pedifix Gel Tailor’s
Bunion Pad is made from are made from a very soft mineral oil impregnated
thermoplastic elastomer gel. This advanced oil-based polymer gel slowly
releases a medical grade mineral oil that softens and moisturizes
skin. The Pedifix Gel Tailor’s Bunion pad is nonporous so they
don’t absorb odors and they can be hand washed with mild liquid
or bar soap as often as necessary. |

| The name Tailor’s
bunion comes from the fact that years ago the condition was associated
with people in the clothing industry specifically tailors who would
sit with their legs crossed all day long. This put excessive pressure
on the fifth metatarsal bone and pinky toe resulting in the bulbous
bunion deformity. Tailor’s bunions are similar to the classic
Hallux (big toe) bunion that most people are familiar with but it
occurs at the base of the pinky toe. The cause of a Tailor’s
bunion is similar to the cause of Hallux bunion; generally speaking
a lack of proper arch support and wearing shoes that put excess pressure
on the fifth metatarsal joint. |

The result is an outward
drifting of the fifth metatarsal joint and the formation of a small
bump at the base of the pinky toe. Tailor’s bunions are often
painful and are generally aggravated by pressure. A Tailor’s
bunion can be removed through surgical intervention but if that is
not desired the best non-surgical approach to treating a Tailor’s
Bunion is to wear shoes with a wide toe box and use a tailor’s
bunion pad to protect the bunion from excess pressure and rubbing.

trimmed if necessary) to ensure complete bunion coverage for almost
any shoe size.
